Roundtables
At Human Security Solutions (HSS), our roundtables are more than discussions—they are platforms for strategic exchange, joint reflection, and solution-oriented dialogue on the most pressing issues facing Syria’s peace, security, and governance sectors.
Our regular roundtables bring together local experts, civil society leaders, state representatives, academics, international actors, and former combatants in safe and structured settings. These encounters foster trust, bridge divides, and open space for practical collaboration across sectors and ideologies.
Through our roundtables, we aim to:
- Promote inclusive dialogue on topics like Security Sector Reform (SSR), Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR), transitional justice, human security, and the rule of law
- Create opportunities for multi-stakeholder learning, conflict analysis, and policy development
- Connect local perspectives with regional and international expertise
- Identify barriers to reform and peacebuilding and collectively develop policy-oriented responses
- Strengthen networks of professionals working toward a more peaceful, democratic, and secure Syria
Whether held in-person in Gaziantep or within Syria—or virtually with global participation—our roundtables are designed to be action-focused, inclusive, and deeply grounded in field realities. They serve as a key tool in our mission to shape accountable governance and people-centered security in Syria’s post-conflict landscape.

تجمع طاولاتنا المستديرة الدورية بين الخبراء المحليين، وقادة المجتمع المدني، وممثلي الدولة، والأكاديميين، والجهات الدولية، والمقاتلين السابقين في بيئة آمنة ومنظمة. تُسهم هذه اللقاءات في بناء الثقة، وردم الفجوات، وخلق مساحات للتعاون العملي بين مختلف الأطراف والقطاعات.
تهدف طاولات HSS المستديرة إلى:
- تعزيز الحوار الشامل حول موضوعات مثل إصلاح القطاع الأمني (SSR)، نزع السلاح والتسريح وإعادة الإدماج (DDR)، العدالة الانتقالية، الأمن الإنساني، وسيادة القانون
- إتاحة فرص للتعلم المشترك، وتحليل النزاع، وتطوير السياسات
- ربط الرؤى المحلية بالخبرات الإقليمية والدولية
- تحديد العقبات أمام الإصلاح وبناء السلام، وصياغة حلول عملية قائمة على السياسات
- تقوية شبكات المهنيين العاملين من أجل سوريا أكثر أمنًا، وعدالة، وديمقراطية
سواء أُقيمت هذه الطاولات في غازي عنتاب، أو داخل سوريا، أو عبر الإنترنت بمشاركة دولية، فهي مصممة لتكون شاملة، وعملية، ومبنية على واقع الميدان. وتشكل أداة محورية في رؤيتنا نحو بناء حكم مسؤول وأمن يركز على الإنسان في سوريا ما بعد النزاع.
At HSS, our roundtables bring together diverse voices from local, national, and international levels to exchange perspectives and co-develop recommendations for Syria’s future. Each roundtable focuses on key themes such as Security Sector Reform (SSR), Rule of Law, Transitional Justice, and Legitimacy.
Gaziantep – 13 August 2025
Our first roundtable was successfully held in Gaziantep, bringing together civil society actors, academics, and international experts. The discussions centered on transitional justice, SSR, and the rebuilding of the Syrian social contract. The recommendations generated are being compiled and shared with stakeholders.
Damascus – 1 September 2025
The second roundtable will take place in Damascus and will continue the series by deepening dialogue on SSR, Rule of Law, Transitional Justice, and Legitimacy. This roundtable is part of our efforts to include voices from across Syria in shaping inclusive and practical policy recommendations.
Aleppo – 2 September 2025
Our third roundtable will be held in Aleppo, engaging local actors, community leaders, and experts to reflect on the challenges of post-conflict reconstruction and governance. Focus will remain on practical recommendations that balance local realities with national and international perspectives.

Pathways to a New Syria: Building Security, Justice, Rule of Law and Legitimacy
As part of its commitment to inclusive dialogue and knowledge-sharing, Human Security Solutions (HSS) has launched a series of expert roundtables under the title: “Pathways to a New Syria: Building Security, Justice, Rule of Law and Legitimacy.”
These roundtables bring together civil society leaders, local actors, academics, and international experts to generate practical recommendations for Syria’s future. Each meeting focuses on the intersection of Security Sector Reform (SSR), Rule of Law, and Transitional Justice, highlighting how legitimacy and social trust can be restored after decades of authoritarianism and conflict.
- Gaziantep (13 August 2025): The first roundtable gathered diverse Syrian and international voices, creating a safe space to reflect on SSR, transitional justice, and the role of civil society. Recommendations emphasized local ownership and building legitimacy from the grassroots level.
- Damascus (1 September 2025): This roundtable continues the series inside Syria, engaging directly with local stakeholders to discuss reform, justice, and governance in the post-Assad context. It builds on Gaziantep’s outcomes while incorporating perspectives from Syrian institutions and communities.
- Aleppo (2 September 2025): The third roundtable deepens the conversation in northern Syria, addressing how rule of law and transitional justice can support national reconciliation and stability. It also stresses the importance of linking local experiences to national frameworks.
Together, these events aim to compile concrete policy recommendations to be shared with Syrian institutions, civil society, and the international community. The series underscores HSS’s mission: to ensure that Syria’s pathway forward is shaped not only by political elites but also by the voices and needs of its people.
