Overview
Human Security Solutions (HSS) organizes professional, on-the-ground study trips in Syria for diplomats, security sector experts, humanitarian professionals, journalists, and researchers. These trips offer unique access to key regions, actors, and institutions involved in Syria’s post-conflict governance and recovery processes.
Purpose
Our trips provide in-depth, field-based insights into security sector reform (SSR), disarmament and reintegration (DDR), transitional justice, missing persons, and human security, fostering a deep understanding of Syria’s evolving political and social landscape.

Confirmed Locations
– Damascus – visits to state institutions, embassies, justice sector actors, civil society initiatives, and embassies
– Tartous – perspectives from coastal communities on security, reconciliation, and governance
– Idlib – observing newly reintegrated areas under regime control, gaining insights into state-civil relations and local governance transitions
– Hama – civil society leadership, post-conflict governance, and community-based recovery
– Atmeh Camp – field visit to displacement areas, including meetings with UN staff, humanitarian agencies, and affected families
– Daraa – observing the region’s complex dynamics amid ongoing Israeli military operations and territorial disputes
Key Engagements
- Seydnaya Prison – visiting this site of documented atrocities under the Assad regime, central to understanding transitional justice and accountability processes
- Meetings with armed groups, including Druze factions recently integrated into state structures, to discuss pathways toward legitimate security and demobilization
- Exchanges with Syrian media, including Enab Baladi, to explore press freedom and the role of journalism in post-conflict Syria
- Conversations with families of missing persons, documentation groups, and ICMP (International Commission on Missing Persons) on justice and accountability for the disappeared
- Expert briefings with local academicians, International Crisis Group (ICG), Geneva Call, and other international actors working on conflict resolution, human rights, and protection frameworks

Total price: 1000 EUR per person. Included in the trip: Hotel, transportation and food costs for 7 days. The participants can book their own flight tickets.
